A person's medals

As children, we all had field days. The winners in each race or activity would receive a medal (or ribbon). When you are little, that medal means the world to you. Madison received a medal from the swim league championships this year and she was so excited. It was HER medal; and it represented all the practices, meets, drills, and coachings she had received which allowed her to win the medal.

Another situation that I will always think of concerning medals are the survivor medals given at all Relay For Life events. This medal is VERY symbolic of the journey each cancer person goes through but when presented to one survivor, it becomes their journey. It is their victory over a dreaded disease and all that encompasses such as doctor visits, treatments, hospital stays, and dependance on others during the process.

As adults we don't normally receive medals but I think many people should. The couple who adopts a needy family for Christmas should get a medal. They allow the magic of Christmas to continue for a family that would have had a dreary day. The best friends who do anything asked. ANYTHING from babysitting, cooking, driving, groceries, to holding your hand at the doctor and ER. The family member and friends who pray for a multitude of people for many different reasons. Last but not least, the niece who texts during a favorite show just to make her aunt feel better and more loved.

All these people deserve medals in my book. Not just one medal but one medal for each selfless act. You all stand on a podium with medals in hand. My champions!!!
